If you have an iPad or iPhone with a Home Button and Touch ID, there are some customizations available that will make your device more accessible and less frustrating.
Do you find yourself accidentally holding the Home Button a fraction too long and summoning Siri when all you wanted to do was unlock the iPad? Maybe you’re trying to get to the App Switcher, and because you’re not clicking at the right speed, you can’t access it.
If you’re looking for an easier way to trigger actions with the Home Button, this guide is for you.
Hate Having to Push the Home Button to Unlock
If your Lock Screen is awake and you rest your thumb or finger on the Home Button, your iPhone or iPad will automatically unlock. But, to open it you’ll have to push the Home Button. However, there’s an option to disable this feature, and then all you have to do is rest your finger on the Home Button and the device will unlock and open.
If you go directly from the sleeping Lock screen, rest your finger for a second, and press the Home Button, it’ll unlock, whether you have Rest Finger To Open disabled or not. The settings can be found here:
- Launch Settings
- Tap Accessibility
- Now Tap Home Button
- Toggle Switch next to Rest Finger to Open
Change the Click Speed of the Home Button
If you have mobility or motor impairments and can’t click the Home Button as quickly as the default setting, you can change it so that you can double or triple-click comfortably.
- Launch the Settings app
- Tap Accessibility
- Now Tap Home Button
- Choose Default, Slow, or Slowest to set click speed
Change the Home Button’s Click Intensity iPhone Only
If you have an iPhone 7 or 8, you can change the click intensity of your Home Button. The Home Button uses haptic feedback to simulate the feeling of pressing a physical button. The click you feel is a vibration, and you can alter it to suit your needs.
- Launch the Settings app
- Tap General
- Now tap Home Button
Check out the 3 options by pressing on the Home Button. Adjust the intensity of the button to suit your needs. When finished tap done in the upper right corner.
Conclusion
Now you know how to customize your Home Button settings. It will help alleviate Home Button issues like activating Siri every time you hold down the button.
