One of the brightest features in iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 is Safari Extensions.
What are Safari Extensions
Maybe you have no idea what an extension is or what it does. Well, Safari Extensions are downloadable add-ons that improve and increase the web browser’s functionality.
Apple brought this to iOS 14, but it was limited to content blockers, and now Apple is expanding this feature, letting you tweak your browser in all kinds of ways. Some extensions help you save money while you shop; others might introduce a powerful new shortcut, making the web less distracting so that you can focus.
How To Install Safari Extensions on the iPhone and iPad
To install a Safari Extension, you’ll need to download them. Here’s the easiest way:
- Open Settings
- Scroll and Tap on Safari
- Select Extensions under General
- Tap More Extensions
- Locate the Extension you want to download
- Follow the prompts to download and install.
If you have some extensions installed, you’ll see them listed in the Safari settings under Extensions. Toggle the switch next to them on, start setting them up so you can use them. You may need to sign in to an account to use that extension.

How To Use Safari Extensions
Now that the extension is downloaded, set up, and enabled, here’s how to use it.
- Open the Safari browser
- Tap the “puzzle piece” icon on the left side of the address bar to pop up the menu
- You’ll see a list of your current extensions and the option to Manage Extensions
- Tap Manage Extensions toggle on the switch to enable the extension
A pop-up may appear at the top of the screen asking you to review additional permissions. You can check these permissions by:
- Opening the Settings app
- Scroll and Tap on Safari
- Selecting the extension
- Toggle on the switch
- Tapping Ask at the very bottom
- Choosing Allow for all websites
How To Delete Safari Extensions
If there comes a time when you want to delete an extension, you’ll want first to turn off the functionality.
- Open Settings
- Scroll and tap on Safari
- Select Extensions under General
- Tap the toggle Off next to the extension you want to delete.
Most of the Safari extensions are tied to an app that includes the traditional app icon. So you’ve turned off the extension but the app remains.
